APA Format - This page provides
information related to APA formatting and the Nova GSCIS
dialect of the APA format. Please note that:
"The official GSCIS policy on dissertations is contained in the
Dissertation
Guide and students should be aware that this policy conflicts with APA.
Students should be sure to follow the GSCIS Dissertation Guide on style and
format matters, and should not blindly follow APA. Students should understand
that APA addresses the format for submission of draft papers for review for
publication in APA journals -- papers that will be typeset by APA -- but the
dissertation is typeset by the student! Examples of conflicts: the
Dissertation Guide requires hanging indents for reference lists while APA
requires the first line to be indented; the Dissertation Guide allows use of
italics while APA requires underlining; the Dissertation Guide uses title caps
for book titles while APA requires only the first letter of the first word to
be capitalized; and there are other conflicts as well. Furthermore, the APA
template conflicts with the GSCIS Dissertation Guide regarding margins, line
spacing, page numbering, font styles for heading levels, etc" (Lieblein,
2000).
